Garry Fryer

A Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA), Gerry has authored seven papers and given many speeches on coaching and allied subjects. Since obtaining his initial coaching certification, he has continued his education in the field, with particular focus on team coaching using the Living Systems approach. Gerry serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Toronto Area chapter of the International Coach Federation.

Gerry's experiences have made him an ardent believer in the power of coaching relationships to transform lives. He demonstrates this through one-on-one coaching, which releases individuals to achieve the results and behaviours that will move them forward; and in working with teams in a way that surfaces the best qualities of its members, individually and as a collective, so that they can go on to sustain outstanding performance.

Starting out as an analytical and logical thinker, Gerry has evolved in his life’s calling and now devotes his practice to creatively enabling the growth of people towards their potential. He has natural talents as a nurturer and has been a mentor, coach and facilitator for hundreds of people. Gerry has been a leader in large and small organizations, and recognizes the differing needs and aspirations of the people who contribute to their success. Both goal-oriented and compassionate, Gerry brings wit, warmth, and a broad grasp of business perspectives to coaching.

Several qualities show up consistently in Gerry's professional coaching work. He demonstrates appreciation for his clients’ ideas as well as kindness towards them as individuals, while still holding them accountable for results. Gerry has a relaxed style, but still remains passionate and persistent about moving towards the agreed-upon coaching goals. His profound sense of fairness ensures that all voices are heard during team coaching, resulting in better outcomes. Lastly, Gerry has an exceptional ability to synthesize ideas, which is a key element in helping clients move forward.

Gerry's interest in coaching began during his first career at a leading Canadian financial institution, where he mentored dozens of people. He participated in, championed and facilitated a ground-breaking corporate personal and professional growth initiative; then he applied this learning to lead a major Canadian business unit to great success.

Gerry is one of fewer than 650 Canadian professionals who hold a credential with the ICF, which is the leading global organization dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high standards, providing independent certification, and building a worldwide network of credentialed coaches. Globally, less than 7,000 individuals hold these credentials.

Gerry has advanced steadily in communication and leadership within Toastmasters International, and has been the President of the Thornhill Toastmasters Club, as well as being an Advanced Communicator Bronze. His other interests include tennis, golf, singing, scrabble and spending time with his family at their long time summer cottage located at Lake Simcoe, Ontario.
